Food & Wine is looking for a Senior Digital Food Editor to ideate, write, and edit smart, thoughtful food and cooking content for FoodandWine.com. The Senior Digital Food Editor will manage our recipe development and photography process, create articles for our website, and work with the Associate Editorial Director-Food to produce seasonal and evergreen food-driven stories and packages. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer with an eye for detail, highly organized, and experienced in researching food stories and recipes in order to produce accurate and on-brand content. This person is deadline-driven; able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; is highly organized; able to juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously; collaborates with other teams; and has a firm grasp of analytics and digital publishing processes and best practices. Must be proactive in prioritizing daily, weekly, and long-term tasks while working across departments including editorial, photo, design, recipe testing, social media, and marketing. A passion for food, home cooking, and restaurants and an understanding of how to create content that connects with readers across platforms and media is a must.

Essential Job Functions

60% Content Creation

Ideate, pitch, write, and edit articles about food tips, techniques, tools, cooking, and other food topics that meet our audiences' needs, brand voice, and organic search needs.

Track opportunities and trends for top-performing content using analytics tools (SEMRush, Looker, Google Analytics) and use those insights to create content that addresses those opportunities.

Collaborate on editorial projects with other teams including print, social, newsletter, growth (SEO), video, and photo.

Help develop and execute special recipe collections for digital editions and online spotlights.

Work with the growth team to identify recipes needed for SEO and to round out our recipe database.

Work on recipe audits and content updates as needed; identify recipes/food content that needs to be edited or otherwise fixed and lead efforts to update.

30% Manage Recipe Development and Photography

Manage recipe development, editing, and testing process by working with external recipe developers, test kitchen staff, photo studio staff, video studio staff, and others to answer questions and advance recipe production in a timely and professional manner.

Track the status of recipe development and cross-testing with the test kitchen.

Write and edit recipes and headnotes keeping with F&W style, explaining how to execute ambitious cooking projects with clear, precise, empowering language.

Work with visual editors and photographers in New York and Birmingham on food direction for monthly shoots in each location.

Work with Associate Editorial Director-Food to develop and execute compelling, brand-appropriate editorial programs to drive audience growth and engagement and facilitate sponsorship opportunities.

Participate in digital video ideation and creation process for one-off videos and multimedia, long form content packages that combine quality journalism, compelling visual storytelling, and topical subject matter.

Represent Food & Wine at industry events and connect with chefs and PR representatives on behalf of the brand.

Requirements

5-7 years of digital food writing experience.

3-5 years of digital food editing experience/recipe editing experience.

Bachelor’s degree.

Culinary degree, hands-on kitchen experience or recipe development preferred.

Pay Range
Salary: $63,000 - $85,000
