Work with local sports editors, Publications Services team members and content partners to select and leverage sports content for both print and digital platforms; successfully juggle the sharing of breaking news, live game coverage and enterprise reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Coordinate company sports content to ensure efficiency and quality of coverage.
● Work with local sports editors to ensure coverage isn’t duplicated and that work is shared to relevant properties.
● Direct company-wide sports initiatives and coverage, including overseeing regional and national sports content
● Upload and share national, regional and FCC sports content to applicable company websites.
● Identify and edit content for network-wide shared sports pages
● Help oversee daily management of Network Sports Digest of content of interest to multiple sites.
● Design and paginate daily and advance shared sports pages for the overall FCC network.
● Monitor sports wires and content partners’ websites and react to developing sports news stories for print and
online platforms.
● Compile sports roundups for both online and print on various pro and collegiate sports, as well as prep sports
during tournament season.
● Collaborate with Assistant Network Sports Editors, local sports editors and content partners to develop and
produce work that serves a dynamic variety of community, regional and statewide interests.
● Contribute to larger company initiatives and decision making along with editors and content team members.
● Champion accurate, well-crafted stories for publication on all platforms.
● Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
● Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
● Bachelor’s degree in journalism, sports journalism, mass communications or a related field, or equivalent
experience.
● At least seven years of experience contributing to newspaper or magazine editing and/or design.
● At least three years working with sports content.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
● Strong sports knowledge of professional and collegiate sports.
● Strong planning and communication skills.
● Demonstrated news judgment that engages print and online readers.
● Knowledge of legal issues affecting published content.
● Multi-media savvy and knowledge of various social media platforms and opportunities.
● Strong knowledge of AP style.
● Keen organizational and time-management skills.
