Senior Reporter

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Reporter to join our team at WSYM in Lansing, MI. As the Senior Reporter, you will play a crucial role in delivering breaking news coverage and leading our newscasts on a daily basis. You will be the go-to journalist for covering significant events, conducting in-depth investigations, and providing insightful analysis to our audience.

Provide the station with top level reporting for multiplatform distribution. Provide guidance to new reporters at the location.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Generate ideas for stories for multiple platforms.

Report from the field as the lead journalist on nightly newscasts.

Prepare a factual story to impart the information to the public.

Research stories through personal contacts, the internet and other sources deciding the best angle and approach for the story.

Collaborate effectively with News, Promotion, Production and Engineering on daily broadcast, special projects and online coverage.

Participate in community events.

Build a network of informational sources to provide exclusive stories for the Scripps brand.

Meet all production deadlines.

Periodically required to drive personal or company vehicle to cover various assignments.

Complete other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred

Generally, 5+ years of experience in related field preferred
