Freelance Reporter

Illinois freelancers! I am looking for freelance reporters (and pitches) for these locations:

West Side of Chicago
Forest Park
Brookfield
Riverside
Oak Park
River Forest

You must have some journalism experience. I am not looking for content writers. You must live in Illinois.

Journalism students with some experience are welcome. BIPOC and members of the LBGTQ+ communities are encouraged to apply.

We're looking for local journalism that includes business openings and closings, demonstrations, profiles, features and other interesting news that occurs. I am also in need or some -- but limited -- food writing.

You'll be writing for a highly trusted organization with deep roots in its neighborhoods, and a young, energetic, creative team.

Pay begins at $125 per story and will increase according to the amount of reporting and writing each piece needs. Most are light lifts.

If you're interested, please send me a resume, some writing samples and a cover letter telling me why you're right for the job and include three pitches. We will not give your pitches to someone else to write. If we like them, we'll hire you for them.
