The Financial Times is looking for a new editor to lead our award-winning Money and Wealth coverage, spanning investment, tax, property and other aspects of personal finance.
The Money and Wealth Editor will take on the role at a crucial time, as it expands to form a new vertical, encompassing a Wealth Hub that will host wealth management content from across the broader FT and Nikkei, as well as the established Wealth magazine and the weekly Money section. An additional Wealth writer/commissioning editor will be hired to run the Hub and work more broadly on Wealth coverage.
The FT has long captured the imagination of our wealthier readers through the pages of HTSI. With these roles, we have an opportunity to build an equivalent franchise in an area that should be even more core for the FT: how the wealthy manage their money.
In the face of slowing global growth and increased geopolitical tensions, the Money and Wealth Editor will need to guide our readers through a more testing investment landscape. The polarising filter of ESG, as well as the weak performance of some equity markets, not least in the UK, only adds to the challenge. Which investment sectors are appealing? Is AI a threat or an opportunity? How is regulation shaping the market? Now more than ever private investors and their advisers should be coming to the FT for our news, comment and analysis.
In addition, we need to excel at other trends affecting swaths of our readership - spiralling mortgage costs; tax policy, particularly as it affects globally mobile readers; pensions planning.
What we are looking for
The successful candidate will have the confidence to commission writers across the FT, ensuring we break news, crunch data and provide smart, incisive analysis and comment. They will also show the vision to develop the vertical through events and other services to readers, building on the success of launches such as consumer editor Claer Barrett’s Money Clinic.
Please submit your application by the end of the day, September 21 2023.
