The FT is seeking an experienced journalist for the New York news desk to oversee our coverage of US companies and markets. This is an essential and wide-ranging editing role at the heart of a multimedia newsroom that would suit a candidate with an excellent record of editing and/or covering important business stories.
The New York news desk works as a flexible team but the core focus of this role will be the commissioning and editing of stories from correspondents in US-based finance, markets and corporate teams. You will have the opportunity to set the agenda on some of the most critical stories we cover, and to promote them to a global audience to maximum effect.
Your Skills
Familiarity with finance and markets, and a record of helping tell stories about them in the most compelling ways, will be an advantage in applying for this position. As with other news editing roles, you will also be expected to help with the broader management of the day’s news, and will have the opportunity to contribute ideas that help shape a wide array of US coverage.
This role offers the opportunity to work with some of the FT’s most experienced reporters, and to help develop the careers of newer writers. It covers everything from commissioning and copy editing for breaking news stories and analysis to longer-term planning on the biggest upcoming news events.
The role also requires close coordination with news editing colleagues on the New York newsdesk and around the world.
Please submit your application by the end of the day, Tuesday 13th February 2024.
