GamesHub is looking for a Managing Editor to lead the award-winning publication, maintaining its strong growth and reputation in the games media space.
About the role:
As the Managing Editor of gameshub.com you will have full responsibility for the day-to-day operations and editorial output of the masthead.
You will lead the publication’s editorial content strategy and be responsible for forging and maintaining industry relationships, increasing the profile of the brand, and growing site traffic, engagement, and revenue generation opportunities.
You will have passion and a deep awareness, knowledge and understanding of the global games industry, the Australian games industry, and the issues surrounding them. You will be on the pulse of the current events and be enthusiastic about diving deep into the subject matter from both a commercial and artistic perspective. You will be strategic and a creative thinker who can find new ways of presenting video game coverage to capture the imagination of a broad audience.
You will have experience working within a successful digital publication and be aware of the nuances and trends within the industry. You will be able to attract, engage, and build loyalty with an audience, and have a proven working knowledge of CMS, social media and SEO strategy.
You will be responsible for an editorial team, be charged with commissioning freelance work and maintaining a budget, and act as the primary point of contact for GamesHub within the company. You will understand the commercial realities of digital publications, and work with the leadership and sales teams on product development, and commercialisation strategies.
This role reports to the CEO and works closely with editorial teams, the business development team, product development and marketing team, as well as key strategic partners and advertisers.
Key responsibilities of the role:
Drive the editorial content strategy with the goal of increasing traffic, engagement, and brand awareness.
Create opportunities for editorial content, audience growth and engagement, as well as revenue generation.
Oversee all of Gameshub’s current and future offerings including written articles, multimedia products, social media, and newsletters.
Create content using text, image, audio and video with efficiency and accuracy, meeting high standards of reliability and bolstering GamesHub's reputation as a respected destination for games content.
Lead, mentor, and peer review work from the internal GamesHub editorial team and external freelance contributors, enabling them to do their best work.
Collaborate with internal Business Development, Product Development, and Commercial teams, as well as external partners to develop campaigns, programs, and content that build, engage, teach, and inspire our audiences.
We’d love someone who has:
Sound editorial skills including the ability to work with a style guide to maintain consistency and quality.
A high level of written communication skills, ideally with a portfolio of previous work.
A deep understanding of CMS, SEO, and social media including the ability to find new angles and amplify stories to advocates.
A deep knowledge and curiosity about the global and local games industries
The ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy.
Experience managing a highly effective team to meet deadlines and understand their audience.
A flair for developing new forms of content including image, audio and video content.
Sound knowledge of the global and local games industry.
Strong commercial acumen including experience partnering with industry, monetising content and building key audiences that are attractive to potential partners.
Work Experience and Skills
3+ years of experience in a similar digital media role is essential
Experience in games media is highly desirable.
