The Houston Home Journal is seeking a dedicated journalist to join our award-winning newsroom in Middle Georgia as a general assignment reporter.
The general assignment reporter will assist our editor in covering news in Houston County and its three municipalities – Centerville, Perry and Warner Robins. In addition to news coverage, the general assignment reporter is responsible for assisting in the pagination of our twice weekly print edition, so experience with InDesign is a must.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for local journalism that serves the community with accurate and timely reporting. The reporter will need to work collaboratively with news and advertising staff while also owning their beat and filing accurate copy quickly.
Experience utilizing a CMS, shooting photos and recording video is preferred. This position reports to the Home Journal’s editor.
Houston County is the largest county in Middle Georgia with almost 170,000 residents and is home to one of the state’s largest employers – Robins Air Force Base. The Houston Home Journal, which first published in 1870, is part of the Georgia Trust for Local News, a nonprofit that operates 18 newsrooms across Middle and South Georgia.
This is not a remote or hybrid position. Our office is based in Perry, Georgia. Reporters are required to have a valid Georgia driver’s license, reliable transportation and vehicle insurance.
The position’s salary scale is $25,000-$35,000 depending on experience. Benefits include paid vacation and holidays, dental and life insurance.
