Staff Reporter (Consumer Tech)

Gizmodo is looking for a hands-on reporter to contribute to consumer tech news and reviews. You’ll work on product reviews, buying guides, and related news, and provide Gizmodo’s audience with valuable insight and opinions about consumer technology products, including what to buy, and how to best use it.

It’s a widely varied job, including both breaking news coverage of key companies and brands, and in-depth product testing, reviewing and recommending. The ideal candidate for this position has a demonstrable interest in the consumer tech products that influence our daily lives, from laptops and phones to game consoles and smart home devices. Bonus points for having existing contacts at major hardware and software brands, and experience testing and benchmarking products.

You have an understanding of the major companies, issues, and reader-focused concerns across consumer technology and can write fast, clean copy. You can expertly parse press releases and PR statements with a critical eye, and have impeccable fact-checking skills. You’ll be providing Gizmodo’s large audience with valuable information and insight into what’s happening in the fast-paced tech industry and how it impacts them.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Cover the consumer technology and product news of the day, with depth and accuracy
Develop expertise and sources in key audience interest areas
Work closely with editors to identify potential stories and execute on them
Contribute both longer-form reviews and buying guides and short-form breaking news articles in your beat as needed

Requirements

Minimum 2-3 years experience reporting at a major print or digital publication, including experience covering consumer technology topics, gadgets, etc.
Experience working with CMS systems
Sharp editing skills, excellent grammar, and a strong sense of voice and style
Knowledge of journalistic standards, laws, and best reporting practices

This is a position covered under the collective bargaining agreement with the WGA-E at a minimum of $63,000.00 with a range of up to $65,000.00 annually dependent upon years of related experience."
