We are seeking a reporter to join our newsroom for 12 months as an inequality reporter.
In this role you will…
Investigate and report on the extent, causes and impact of inequality in Australia, including across income and wealth, gender, age and race
Generate original content and cover stories in innovative ways including social, video and interactive reports
Produce clean, accurate copy to deadline
Check stories for accuracy and legal compliance, ensure all potential legal issues resolved prior to publishing
Engage with social media to promote stories and uncover information
Interact with readers, responding to ideas and using information as source material
Acquire and nurture contacts
You’ll bring…
Experience working in a fast-changing and high-pressure news environment, preferably on a news website
An excellent understanding of and preferably experience reporting on national inequality issues
The ability to make contacts and develop story areas, and break exclusives in those areas
Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Strong news sense, and the ability to think of and develop fresh ideas and new angles
Ability to produce high-quality stories and lively copy to deadlines, and a good understanding of media law.
