Head of Content

New Posted 25 January 2024 | London, England, United Kingdom/Remote | The B1M

The B1M is the world’s leading video publisher for construction with more than 3 million YouTube subscribers and 24 million people watching our content each month. Our mission is to fundamentally change the world’s perception of this critical industry through our work.

Our award-winning productions have earned us the largest video audience in the architecture and construction sectors worldwide. We have filmed inside Big Ben, interviewed Sir Richard Branson and been named by The Times as one of the 20 best educational channels in the world.

We are looking for a full-time head of content to lead our editorial and creative video teams. You will be overseeing our team of content producers pitching, researching, scripting and producing explainer-style video content for distribution on YouTube and our social channels.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading creative teams to produce impactful explainer-style digital video content that appeals to a mainstream audience. Experience covering the construction and architecture sectors would be advantageous.

The B1M’s team has a passion for bringing stories to our audience in an engaging way that stops them in their tracks. We help talented, creative and driven people to make an impact and change the world with their work.

This is an exciting opportunity for a leadership role in a dynamic, growing business that’s disrupting media in a critical yet under-served subject area.

Candidates must have at least three years' experience in a similar role.

What you will do:

Lead and champion the editorial direction of The B1M’s content.
Help shape and develop the big-picture content strategy for the company, including new formats, resource allocation and series development.
Oversee and manage the process of our content teams pitching, researching, scripting and producing explainer-style digital video content.
Lead editorial meetings.
Oversee our team of four content producers as their line manager – including holding regular 1:1 catch-ups and bi-annual personal development planning (PDP) sessions.
Assist with managing and co-ordinating the publishing calendar to ensure that video projects are suitably resourced and delivered for publication on time.
Review and provide feedback on content pitches, video scripts, video drafts and sponsored integrations.
Review publishing set-ups before content is made live.
Oversee the content producer delivering our weekly email newsletter, providing editorial feedback and guidance.
Support the commercial function of the business, including the production of branded content and sponsored integrations.

What you will bring:

A proven track record of leading creative teams to produce explainer-style video content for digital distribution (primarily on YouTube).
Strong editorial judgment, journalistic standards and attention to detail.
Excellent organisation and planning skills.
The ability to co-ordinate with your colleagues and line reports in a fast-changing, high-pressure environment.
Familiarity with The B1M’s tone of voice, style and approach.
Excitement about the power and impact of video journalism over other, conventional forms of media.

This is a full-time role with a three-month probation period.

To apply:

Please attach a CV and a short cover letter describing your experience and interest in the position. Include three links to examples of your work and a description of your role on those projects.
