Overview:

This part-time contractor position at TheBody/TheBodyPro places you at the center of our efforts to provide practical, accessible clinical news and information focused on HIV and related conditions. This position will call upon not only your outstanding abilities as a science-focused journalist, but also your passions for racial justice and equity in health care, LGBTQ-centered medical needs, U.S. health care access, and sexual health.

Answering to our executive editor, you'll be responsible for creating high-quality, science-driven content that primarily serves HIV care providers and related professionals. This includes news and analyses of research and other scientific developments; coverage of medical conferences; topical overviews containing practical guidance and clinically relevant takeaways; and interviews or commentaries featuring leading clinician-researchers.

Location: REMOTE (AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, KY, MA, MD, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA)

Responsibilities:

Shepherd science-oriented content (both written and multimedia) through the editorial process, from ideation through production.
Create and update valuable, engaging, high-quality original content based on research, community input, team conversations, and frequent examinations of gaps in our existing coverage.
Manage editorial projects, including the creation of specialized content packages and our coverage of medical or research conferences (some of which will necessitate on-site attendance).
Recruit, and maintain relationships with, a wide and diverse range of freelance writers and correspondents.
Adhere to and enforce sourcing and conflict-of-interest guidelines, ensure all content meets our editorial standards, and help develop and execute our editorial style guide.

Requirements

3-5 years of experience as a health or science editor, including considerable experience or interest specifically in HIV/AIDS.
Outstanding communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills organizational and self-management abilities, including a talent for executing multiple projects and balancing priorities.
Value working closely with fellow members of a small, diverse team of extremely dedicated, social justice-minded individuals.
Ability to manage a team of freelance writers.
Proven ability in the digital health space, with firm grasp of editorial standards and guidelines.
Experience with digital publishing and using CMS web systems.
