Homes & Gardens is looking to hire a Managing Editor to join its award-winning team that’s the fastest-growing shelter site in the US - and the UK market leader. What you'll be doing...
As the Managing Editor, you will be a super-organised editorial expert that can seamlessly blend the values and high standards of Homes & Gardens’ content with data-led decision making to meet and exceed goals. You will be responsible for editorial calendar planning and management and top-editing and commissioning the work of others while improving process and content efficiency. You’ll also be tasked with monitoring performance of critical terms.
Creatively and effectively manage the editorial calendar for sign-off from Editor, including monthly evergreen content planning, daily news output, regular franchises, and commercial content in order to reach monthly traffic and revenue goals.
Lead on search strategy, reporting on critical term performance and rankings to key evergreen pages.
Active management of all the existing content on the site. Build out content pyramids and collaborate with sections editors to commission content that builds topical authority around key pages.
Manage freelance commissions and pitches in tandem with the section editors, including allocation of stories, top-editing, calendar planning.
Track monthly editorial budget for Editor/GBD approval and manage invoices.
Report topline analytics performance weekly and provide data-led intel, real-time feedback and planning support cross-departmentally with key stakeholders (Partnerships, Newsletter, Social, Search, Affiliate, Commercial, Editorial) to maximise on traffic and revenue opportunities.
Ensure that tone, house style, content quality and core values are at the forefront of all content produced.
Contribute to commercial projects as required including ideation, pitches and client meetings
Act as a senior leader on the team, mentoring and developing junior staff members.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve...
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong visual sensibilities; commercial-first mindset combined with editorial nous.
Skilled in SEO best practices, CMS and analytics.
Experience at building out content pyramids and taking an audience-first approach to planning.
Ability to work calmly under pressure, be focused on goals with a sense of urgency, self-guidance and ability to quickly turn an idea into a final product.
Collaborative team player, with a resourceful can-do attitude, who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment; ability to work cross-functionally and directly with clients.
