If you want to join one of the world’s leading design and decoration brands, creating brilliant short-form articles about all things gardens and outdoor living related, get in touch. If you’re a journalist and digital native with an interest in gardening, who is used to the pace and ideation required on a digital news beat, we want to hear from you!

What you'll be doing…

As News Writer (Gardens), you'll pitch and write multiple unique daily features for Homes & Gardens. You will be part of a dedicated and expert Gardens team, producing high-quality, seasonal and authoritative content to a vast gardening audience. You will understand how to write headlines and create content to optimise against and increase traffic through Google News and Discover, as well as through our social and partnerships channels (eg Apple News).

You'll also be brimming with engaging ideas for translating our trending and seasonal content onto the relevant Homes & Gardens’ social channels, collaborating with the social media editor to do this.

You'll combine ecommerce opportunities alongside news-led content to support revenue and traffic goals. You'll help to monitor daily traffic analytics for the Gardens section, and analyse the results to show how the team can adapt its output to reach an even wider audience.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

Relevant editorial experience with proven background in digital.
A keen interest in gardening, homes and interiors, and an ability to write for American audiences.
First-rate SEO expertise and a keen interest in and understanding of analytical tools, which you’ll use to form your content crafting.
Exceptional writing and editing skills - from the ability to write snappy headlines to tight grammar control, through to the ability to source the right image to draw people in.
An ability to work under pressure with a focus on goals, and deliver content to a tight turnaround.
Understanding of media law and image rights. You'll be responsible for sourcing your own images for stories and flagging any legal issues.
Flexibility - news traffic doesn’t always peak 9-5 so some elements of the role might require a more flexible approach to hours at certain times of the year.
Passion for the data side of web editing and ability to closely monitor and interpret performance and trends.
A ruthless approach to success - you’ll enjoy the competitive nature of digital content production, taking pride in success and learning from others.
A great communicator and collaborative team player - both with the industry and the wider Future team - to allow you both to sell our brands to the industry but also extract the knowledge we already have in the business and apply it.
