HousingWire wants a real estate reporter to join a growing newsroom that unearths the people, battles and issues that define today’s U.S. housing economy. The successful candidate will have a competitive streak, a willingness to learn from mistakes, and a passion for breaking news. We also want someone who prioritizes accuracy and reliability. Breaking news means building trust with real estate professionals and other sources. The real estate reporter would do daily beat coverage of real estate’s biggest businesses and lobbyists, including mega-listings website Zillow and the National Association of Realtors, a group savvy enough to have trademarked the word “realtor.” The reporter must write stories quickly without simply parroting the company’s line. Critical thinking is required. The reporter would also cover national market trends. Additionally, they must be comfortable reporting on real estate’s history of racism, and the social and cultural impact of home ownership. The ideal candidate has a year’s experience, or a background in journalism education. HousingWire has seasoned reporters and editors who will train and guide the reporter. We do not want to burn you out. We want you as part of our team, and to have the opportunity to advance to longer-form stories, podcasts, or whatever else may interest you.
