Job Introduction
i is recruiting an Audience Editor to lead our audience team, spanning Social, Homepage curation, SEO, Newsletters and more.
The role combines operational and strategic leadership. The Audience Editor is responsible for the day-to-day management of distributing i’s best journalism. You will also shape strategy for building a loyal and dedicated audience, with a specific focus on driving and retaining subscribers.
You will work with editors and reporters throughout the newsroom, deciding how to launch our journalism to engage readers and turn them into subscribers. The Audience Editor will take a key role in planning high-profile projects, helping with ideation and execution on platforms, keeping the needs of the audience central to our journalism.
The Audience Editor has specific responsibility for driving subscriptions from organic channels, in support of i's reader revenue strategy. This involves identifying and targeting key audience growth segments, then using organic channels and collaboration with journalists to deepen reader engagement and build loyalty to i.
This is a senior role in our newsroom, working closely with editorial executives.
Key areas of responsibility
Increase the reach and impact of i's journalism by delivering effective audience engagement strategies to drive digital subscriptions.
Manage the Audience team to generate and prioritise ideas; co-ordinate the launching of stories and content; and develop best practices for social, search and other platforms.
Coordinate the Audience team’s planning for the daily schedule and future events, in order to identify, attract and retain quality audiences.
Advise editorial teams on both a reactive day-to-day basis, and through proactive planning, to generate, refine and execute ideas for coverage, informed by digital audience trends and data.
Build a broader, habitual digital audience, working with newsroom colleagues to plan and deliver major initiatives and projects.
Support the wider team’s digital publishing, including our commitment to high journalistic standards.
