Executive Editor

In These Times is a progressive, nonprofit political magazine dedicated to supporting movements for economic, social, racial and environmental justice, with a special emphasis on workers’ rights and investigative reporting. Founded in 1976, the magazine has seen record growth over the past five years, as more and more people become engaged with democratic socialism, the movement for Black lives, and campaigns for workers’ rights. We’re looking for an Executive Editor who will be responsible for supervising the editorial department (currently made up of five editors, as well as a Creative Director), establishing and maintaining processes and workflow, and supporting and advocating for the editorial team members. This is a management position that reports directly to the Editorial Director. The ideal candidate is an experienced editor who is passionate about progressive politics, progressive policy and social movements, and can translate that enthusiasm into compelling coverage that drives social change. Candidates should have experience managing others as well as editing clean, fact-checked copy in a deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable editing a variety of stories, including hard news, long-form features, opinion and cultural commentary for both print and web, with an understanding of the unique needs of both mediums.
