Insider is looking for an editor to help build our coverage of the energy industry, spanning big oil to renewables to clean-tech startups. The energy industry is going through an epic transformation, accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic, the threat of global warming, and Russia’s war on Ukraine. Governments and investors are pushing fossil fuel companies and legacy utilities to reduce their carbon footprints, as the impacts of climate change come into sharper focus. Meanwhile, startups are developing clean-energy products and services with the backing of major venture capitalists. We value coverage that takes readers inside companies and makes an impact. Our reporting first exposed Exxon’s employee ranking system, which it used to quietly cut staff. In response to our story on solar-panel marketing, Facebook removed ads that misled the public. We’ve also made a mark through our fresh analyses and deep dives into opaque industries from biofuels to renewable energy certificates. We’re looking for an ambitious editor to build the foundation for our energy team and guide its expansion over time. You should be comfortable conceiving of and editing quick-turn lists and stories, as well as overseeing major scoops and features. A successful person in this role will have a strong vision for how Insider’s energy coverage can stand apart and serve our global readers and the skills and drive to make that vision a reality.
