We’re looking to hire a junior reporter who is self-starting, passionate about breaking news and business news, and has a knack for telling stories in a relatable way. This is a full-time, six-month contract position based in Singapore. Insider Inc.’s Singapore bureau is a small team that thrives on jumping on the biggest news of the day, pivoting quickly, and being highly selective with angles and news framing choices.

Our mission is to inspire action through thought-provoking stories. We help our readers discover the ideas and the people who are changing business, tech, and beyond. Our team members embody and uphold Business Insider’s three core values: we are all one team, we are effective, and we strive to get better every day.

As Jr. Reporter (Contract), you will be responsible for covering some of the biggest stories of the day. You will cover a broad range of stories on our news and business verticals, including breaking news, politics and geopolitics, tech, finance, and retail. You should be comfortable working on a variety of story formats, including aggregated news hits in 300 words, original stories and interviews, photo-heavy slideshows, and features with strong attention to narrative storytelling. You can expect to spend every morning writing news stories on 90-minute deadlines (or less), and publishing no fewer than 2 news stories a day. You might also be asked to support senior-level reporters with research and reporting. The scope of the news you’ll be covering on a daily basis is global, spanning from the US to Ukraine to Israel. You’ll also be asked to produce feature-length reporting about the APAC region.

This role reports to the bureau chief and sits on the news desk. This role will be based in Singapore and will be hybrid (a mix of remote and in-office days). Our working hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Works well under pressure: You’ll be held to tight deadlines every single day
Knows how to distill complicated concepts into clean, clear copy that needs minimal line edits
Is a voracious consumer of business and global breaking news
Is an excellent storyteller
Knows how to advance a story with fast-turnaround reporting and analysis
Thrives working on short deadlines and juggling multiple responsibilities at once
Is a self-starter who’s eager to get their hands dirty and take on assignments from editors
