UK Markets Fellow (Jan 2024)

Insider is hiring a paid U.K.-based reporting fellow to join our Markets team in January 2024.

The Role & Team:

The Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week.

Markets Insider is a destination for both real-time markets data and incisive coverage of everything happening in the industry. Our reporters deliver crucial insights and detailed analysis to our audience. The team spans the US and UK, and the reporters work collaboratively. Topics covered include stocks, the economy, crypto, bonds, and currencies.

We’re looking for a global markets junkie and killer writer who loves making each of their stories better than the last. The team’s fellow will cover the biggest stories of the day and tell our readers what major developments mean. They will aim to entertain and delight readers with unique looks at the market themes that impact their lives. They will make investor-research reports interesting, break down the market zeitgeist, and work quickly to execute their ideas.

Key Responsibilities

Produce daily coverage of markets, including stocks, bonds, crypto, and commodities.
Write longer form analysis and explainer type coverage of the most important, interesting, and timely markets events.
Become versed and highly knowledgeable in markets.
Hone SEO best practices and become adept at Insider’s style of headline writing.

The ideal candidate has:

A background in journalism, writing, and reporting online
Experience with markets and/or business reporting
A keen eye for impactful and potentially market-moving news
A working knowledge of SEO best practices

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
Familiarity with digital and social media
The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
Proofreading and copyediting skills
A love of Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun

Salary & Benefits:

Fellows are paid an annual salary of £24,000.
Fellows get 10 days annual leave during the 6-month period
This position starts in Jan 2024 and requires that you work full-time for six months.

Insider is a flexible workplace when it comes to remote work, but an important part of the fellowship is being a part of the newsroom in person for learning opportunities. Fellows are asked to come into our offices in London at least two days a week.
