Business Insider is hiring a video production fellow to join Boot Camp on our Life Video team to investigate what training and life is like within the various military branches, academies and law enforcement agencies.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week and can be fully remote.
The Role & Team:
As a Boot Camp video production fellow you will be responsible for pitching story ideas, researching, choosing visuals, logging and transcribing footage, crafting shot lists and interview questions, and scripting engaging and inclusive narratives.
The fellow will learn how to take complex research, and break it down in a conversational and creative way. They will develop a keen eye for compelling visuals and crafting stories that will make our footage shine.
This role reports directly to the and sits on the Supervising Producer for the show. Business Insider is a flexible workplace when it comes to remote work, but an important part of the fellowship is being a part of the newsroom in person for learning opportunities. Fellows are asked to come into our offices in New York City/London/LA/SF at least two days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
Scripting thorough, fair, and accurate stories
Identifying clear and interesting characters for our stories
Open to giving and receiving feedback so our team can continue and stay committed to getting better every day
Video and audio media management
Logging footage for “selects” ie footage and natural sound/sound bites that should be considered for use in projects
Logging transcribed interviews for relevant and impactful soundbites that could be considered for use in projects
The ideal candidate has:
Basic knowledge of the Armed Forces branches and each one’s general task and purpose
Basic knowledge of military rank echelon and structure for different Armed Forces branches
Proficiency in performing clear and helpful research (creating documents with key facts, suggested questions)
Proficiency in Adobe Premiere is a plus
Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:
A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
Familiarity with digital and social media
The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
Proofreading and copyediting skills
A love of Business Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun
Salary & Benefits:
Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
PTO and paid holidays
Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
