Our team members embody and uphold Insider’s three core values: we are all one team, we are effective, and we strive to get better every day.
The Role & Team:
The Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week.

They will have the opportunity to create videos like How The World's Largest Paper Company Makes 1/3 of Cardboard Boxes In America, Most Ocean Plastic Flows From Rivers. Can Giant Trash Barriers Stop It?, and the Emmy-nominated A New Law Could Clean Up One of America’s Most Polluted Neighborhoods.
This role reports directly to the Supervising Producer for the show and sits on the larger News & Documentary video team. Insider is a flexible workplace when it comes to remote work, but an important part of the fellowship is being a part of the newsroom in person for learning opportunities. Fellows are asked to come into our offices in New York City/London/LA at least two days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
Research, pitch and report ideas for the show
Interview sources in various fields of work
Execute scripts into visually engaging videos that will be shared across platforms
Edit assets using Adobe Premiere
Collaborate with the larger team on pre-production, production and post-production workflows
The ideal candidate has:
Experience reporting and writing (school publications are okay)
A passion for storytelling through video on the topics we cover
Ability to turn in-depth research into clean and compelling video scripts on deadline
Proficiency with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop is a plus
Experience using audio and digital video equipment including Canon and Sony cameras is a plus
Experience shooting great video on smartphones is a plus
An interest in covering environmental and climate-related stories
A thoughtful approach to storytelling and journalistic responsibility
Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:
A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
Familiarity with digital and social media
The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
Proofreading and copyediting skills
A love of Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun
Salary & Benefits:
