Interesting Engineering is looking for an Executive Editor to run our newsroom and the candidate will work with IE’s leadership to set a thorough global editorial vision and lead the editorial team to make it a reality.

The differentiator for us is that we write for someone who loves invention and innovation and generally geeks out about how things work. From the technology and machinery used on the ground in global conflict to the mind-expanding science conducted in the far reaches of space, the position offers the opportunity to critically think about and research the mechanisms of the day’s big stories. While the editor will work hybrid with the team, preference will be given to candidates based in London.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with IE’s leadership to develop and implement a global editorial vision.
Lead the editorial team in producing content that appeals to those fascinated by invention and innovation.
Cover a wide range of topics, from ground-level technology in global conflicts to advanced science in space exploration.
Operate in a hybrid work model, with a preference for candidates based in London.
Lead and unify a passionate team to deliver science and technology stories that the IE audience desires.
Ensure editorial excellence, maintaining the balance in storytelling and upholding IE's high-quality standards.
Promote and develop internal talent, and identify valuable external contributors.
Inspire the team to achieve excellence and foster a high-performance work environment.
Implement the editorial calendar accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain IE's unique voice across all articles and videos for consistent reader experience.
Develop SEO strategies to enhance online visibility and increase content reach.
Analyze and adapt SEO tactics based on performance metrics.
Drive traffic growth and engage a wider audience through innovative strategies.
Monitor web traffic and user engagement metrics to maximize reach and impact.
Oversee the editorial budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and contributing to revenue generation.

Requirements:

Has solid experience in a similar role
Truly understands the science and technology landscape
Is in sync with our audience (exceeding 20M on social media) and can create videos and stories that have a far reach
Respects editorial boundaries and principles and can make tough calls to always keep the brand name of Interesting Engineering a priority
Works well with others in an international setting and can bring out the best in our team
Is deadline-driven and loves taking responsibility
Thrives in Digital Journalism
A charismatic and visionary leader who is able to inspire and guide the team to deliver excellent results
Has a strong, demonstrable interest in science, technology, and engineering
