InvestigateWest, a 14-year-old nonprofit news organization, is looking for an investigative reporter to cover Indigenous affairs across the Pacific Northwest. This is a unique opportunity to probe topics important to tribal communities across the region and to hold the powerful to account. This job is full-time and includes benefits. Candidates must live or be willing to relocate to the Northwest, ideally Washington state.

The ideal candidate:

Has previous experience covering Indigenous affairs.
Has a track record of producing impactful in-depth or investigative stories.
Aspires to great storytelling and studies the giants of the craft.
Gets reluctant sources to talk candidly and has a deft touch with people who have experienced trauma.
Can work both independently and collaboratively.
Brings a little extra to the table (like data analysis, photography, video, crowdsourced reporting or community engagement skills).
Has a long list of project ideas and can juggle quick, mid-range and long-term investigations.

Location: Work from home anywhere in the Northwest, ideally in Washington state

Compensation: $48,000-$65,000

Benefits: 100% coverage of health insurance, 50% of dental, retirement contribution, a work computer and a monthly work-from-home stipend of $100.

Work schedule: Flexible, but generally 40 hours.
