General Reporter

ITV News is looking for a General Reporter to work in one of the most dynamic newsrooms in the UK. We require someone with a passion for covering breaking news, a good understanding and experience of working in television and a hunger to bring in exclusive stories. We are looking for someone who also enjoys working on online platforms and has innovative ideas for how to report stories in a fresh way for digital.

Key Responsibilities:

Able to make well-crafted packages and deliver informative lives for ITV News programmes, ITVX and digital platforms
Self edit packages and other video content to a high standard under time pressure, using Adobe Premiere and Avid
Present and voice bulletins, leadins and other content for ITV News on ITVX
Passionate about original journalism with a proven record of exclusives
Contribute ideas to deliver fresh approaches to newsgathering
Conduct news-making live and pre-recorded interviews
Pitch and deliver coverage ideas beyond London that impact communities across the nations and regions, as well as understanding the ITV News audience
Develop stories for online audiences as well as television viewers, bringing inventive ideas to our digital platforms
Possess the flexibility to cover breaking news, travel at short notice and enjoy a fast-paced newsroom
Able to juggle competing demands and deliver accurate and concise lives and packages under pressure

Key Requirements:

Confident and versatile news presenter and reporter with strong broadcasting skills
Ability to self-edit packages and other video content quickly and to a high standard
Strong knowledge of production and newsgathering
Full understanding of legal and compliance issues including the ITN compliance manual
Proven ability to react to breaking news as and when required
Understanding of graphics
A commitment to creating news coverage that reflects the diversity of Britain’s communities
High-quality news judgement and the initiative to work independently or as part of a team
Able to write concisely, with clarity and imagination for television and other platforms
Calm under pressure in all environments, and able to adapt to a changing situation
Capable of working to tight deadlines
A creative and innovative approach to stories and newsgathering
Responsible for managing a safe working environment when out in the field
A knowledge of Ofcom guidelines
