Overnight Reporter
ITV News is looking for a reporter to deliver content overnight for its news service on the ITVX streaming platform. The role also includes some daytime reporting shifts for ITV network news programmes.
The overnight reporter role requires a hands-on, multi-skilled journalist able to voice, edit and produce multiple pieces of video content overnight, ensuring the news service on ITVX is up-to-date and forward-looking for the day ahead.
They will also publish their videos directly to the ITVX platform, creating compelling video thumbnails and headlines to promote their content to ITVX users on connected TVs, mobile apps and web browsers.
The overnight reporter will be involved in regularly updating a 90 second ITV News bulletin for ITVX through the night, plus package stories that are able to run on both ITVX and ITV News’ television programmes.
In addition to the overnight element of the role, there are some daytime reporting shifts for network news as part of the shift pattern.
This role requires a journalist with sound news judgement and excellent editing and packaging ability. They will also have a strong ability to multi-task and produce multiple videos on shift, plus have the confidence to make editorial decisions on their own overnight.
The successful candidate will also have an appreciation of how video content is distributed on digital platforms and enjoy conceiving engaging thumbnails and headlines for the video they create. This is a newsroom-based role.
Key Responsibilities
Self edit packages and other video content to a high standard under time pressure, using Adobe Premiere and Avid, that can be used on both ITVX and ITV News linear programmes
Source material, structure and write bulletins and packages
Gathering content from a range of sources to pull together comprehensive reports
Liaise with colleagues at Good Morning Britain over stories developing overnight
Turning round video rapidly for breaking news stories
Using templates in Adobe Premiere to add quotes and other simple graphics to packages and video content
Create compelling thumbnails and video pages for stories
Publish content to ITVX using a content management system
Curate ITV News television content and upload other video content when required by ITVX Content Editors
The ability to work at the same level on ITV News programmes and digital
Ensuring a wide range of representative voices feature across all our coverage
Contributing and researching story ideas and planning stories for broadcast
Ensure reports are accurate, comply with the law and relevant regulations, and work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field
This role involves overnight shifts on a three-week pattern which includes some daytime reporting shifts

Key Requirements
A strong background in television reporting
An excellent general knowledge of news, current affairs and sport
Well-organised with a very high ability to multi-task
Ability to compile packages to a high standard
Ability to report on a plethora of different stories from serious breaking news stories, to lighter stories
High-quality news judgement, good initiative and a self-starter
A sound knowledge of the logistics of making video content and how to plan a story
Excellent researcher with good attention to detail
Scrupulous attention to detail, able to write accurate scripts and edit high quality video
Visual flair for spotting pictures and producing graphics
Excellent writing ability
Technical adaptability and flexibility
A strong team player, plus the ability to work independently
Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in both task and role
A good understanding of how video news is consumed on digital platforms
Sound knowledge of the ITN Compliance manual
Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
