Jezebel, the seminal media outlet devoted to feminism, is on the hunt for its next Editor in Chief. The right candidate will join a storied shortlist of writers, columnists, and editors, many of whom have gone on to become the most prominent voices in media today. This is a very visible role requiring not just management and digital experience, but a strong point of view about the issues most affecting women today, as well as a deep network of writers to tap for commentary. You will help develop a sustainable and competitive content strategy, in coordination with the company’s leadership and informed by data, and then execute against it. This is the top editorial role in our organization, reporting to our Deputy Editorial Director.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Serve as the final newsroom voice on all Jezebel’s editorial choices
Manage the day-to-day publishing, as well as long-lead projects and packages.
Represent the interests of Jezebel’s audience in broader interactions with appropriate business functions across the company (marketing, sales, legal, comms, social, HR, etc.)
Develop a content strategy that meets traffic goals, while also affirming the brand’s bonafides as a fearless, independent feminist voice.
Nurture staff of varying levels of experience.
Manage the expenses of the site, including its freelance budget.
Maintain an updated editorial calendar that is available to relevant stakeholders at all times.
Oversee Jezebel’s video franchises and output.

Minimum 5 years relevant newsroom management experience in a fast-paced, constantly evolving digital publishing environment
Impeccable integrity and ability to support our editors in making tough journalistic calls in fast-moving news cycles
Skills to help develop and execute on ideas that can grow Jezebel’s current audience while strengthening its brand recognition.
A sound understanding of the evolving women’s media landscape—and Jezebel’s critical place in it.
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational skills
This position reports into the Deputy Editorial Director Lea Goldman.
This position has range of $125,000.00 up to $180,000.00 annually, dependent upon years of related experience.
