Reserve & National Guard Magazine, published by AmeriForce Media, is seeking freelance journalists to report exclusively for the magazine’s website. The ideal candidate should have a familiarity with covering the military, including terminology, or a background in hard news reporting and, preferably, a strong understanding of the legislative process. Preference will be given to those with a military/veteran affiliation, military PAO experience and/or an extended period of time covering a military or veteran-related beat for traditional news outlets. Assignments include, but are not limited to, event advances, breaking news, unit training/deployments, legislation affecting the military community and business/veteran entrepreneurship. Pay rates range from $50 to upwards of $175, depending on the number/quality of sources and complexity of assignments. Candidates should be deadline driven with the ability to find quality sources, conduct phone, Zoom or in-person interviews, and turn in clean copy adhering to AP style. Strong interview skills are a must. Candidates should also be comfortable pitching stories on occasion.
