Journo Resources is a social enterprise that makes the media look more like it should. We’re looking for a part-time deputy editor to help us realise this goal and push the site forward in 2023 and beyond. This will be a senior and key role in the organisation, deputising for our director and editor. You’ll work across all areas of the business and will be equally passionate about ensuring our financial sustainability as our editorial output.
The Role
This role is broadly split across three areas, of which we expect editorial to take up the most time, but there is room to grow within the role.
Editorial
You’ll take the lead on running our advice section and other areas of the website, with a focus on high-quality original content. This will involve:
Commissioning and editing weekly features from our trainee journalist, fellows, and freelancers — you’ll be editing for both structure and grammar, helping them to put together stand-out, portfolio pieces;
Working with our admin assistant to make sure our lists and other resources are updated on a weekly basis;
Sub-editing our newsletters for grammar and style;
Pitching and writing long-form, original features of your own, every one to two months — we focus on quality, not quantity;
Optimising pieces for SEO and coming up with SEO-focused ideas — our approach to SEO is making high-quality journalism that reaches people looking for help;
Putting together monthly insight round-ups of how our content has performed and suggestions of how to improve.
