KRON4, the Bay Area’s Local News Station, is searching for an assignment editor to join our top-rated morning show team. This position will research, find, and confirm news stories for broadcast and digital. The assignment editor monitors police scanners and works with the Executive producer on assigning reporters and photographers. This position will work out of the KRON4 newsroom located on the Embarcadero.
This will be a full time, non-union, non-exempt position.
Responsibilities:
Tracks and confirms stories from all sources including government agencies, wire services, community groups, and social media.
Works with Executive Producers to dispatch reporters and photographers to cover stories.
Organizes planning and follow-up of news stories.
Assists Assignment Manager in news coverage of big events.
Participates in daily editorial meetings.
Interacts with viewers/users via phone and social media sites.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
2 years of newsroom experience required.
Demonstrated ability to work with writers, reporters on story development.
Possess an aggressive commitment to breaking news and desire to beat the competition.
Be able to make important editorial decisions quickly, work well under pressure.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and other office equipment
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Flexibility to work nights, mornings, weekends.
Compensation: $27+/HR to commensurate with experience and skill level
