Help shape the future of digital journalism in this new and significant role, which assists Lee Enterprises' news leadership in evaluating prospective AI and ML-assisted services and platforms for newsrooms. Help set priorities, then execute projects in collaboration with colleagues in news and development. The position requires broad knowledge and a passion for data, machine learning and fast-evolving AI-assisted tools and techniques for journalism, digital content management, analytics and more.

You'll test and recommend tools and techniques to streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, crunch and analyze data, surface insights, check facts and more. Develop and deploy plans with timelines, adapt to changing circumstances and spot new opportunities. You'll develop and manage training for non-technical frontline journalists, media producers and analytics specialists. And you’ll identify measures of success, evaluate results, then refine and improve operations as needed.

This role requires experience as a data journalist, developer, platform manager and/or product manager. You don't need to be a data scientist or data engineer, but experience with existing commercial and open-source tools and platforms leveraging ML/AI technology will be required. Show us a demonstrated commitment to learning about AI and staying current in a fast-developing environment. Previous experience with data exploration tools, creating automated processes, and applying machine learning and AI technology in everyday production environments will be helpful.

The position is based in Madison, WI, but can be a remote work position for a superior candidate. The expected annualized base salary range for this position is currently $80,000-$110,000. Actual salary may vary based on factors such as employee location, education, experience and other factors permitted by law. The listed salary range is just one component of Lee's total compensation and benefits package.
