Want to cover high school and youth sports in North Carolina? The Greensboro News & Record and Winston-Salem Journal are looking for a prep sports reporter to tell the stories of local student athletes in the Piedmont Triad and capture the excitement of their big games. The Triad includes the cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point and is home to about 1.7 million people, which means we’ve got countless stories to tell and a huge online audience to reach. In addition to the ability to write compelling stories and shoot and upload videos on deadline, w e’re looking for somebody who knows how to grow an online audience and engage with readers on social media. We’re also looking for someone who understands that the sports stories that resonate most with readers are more about the people who play the games than the scores and statistics. A key part of the job will be establishing a rapport with high school students and building strong working relationships with schools and coaches. The prep sports reporter will be working closely with the sports editor and other editors and reporters to develop and implement the strategy for covering local high school teams and athletes that best serves our audience and helps us grow our base of digital subscribers. To apply, please submit a resume and links to five things you’ve done that either represent your best work or show your range of skills. We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you are excited about this role but do not meet 100% of the qualifications above, we encourage you to apply.
