The Los Angeles Times has an opening for a deputy Op-Ed editor. Both internal and external candidates are invited to apply. This manager will assign and coordinate coverage; help maintain the editorial calendar; plan ahead for ambitious enterprise; provide guidance on editorial strategy; vet candidates to potentially be periodic opinion contributors; and manage freelancers and their payments. This journalist will need to coach junior editors. Generating ideas, seeking out influential thinkers and persuading them to write are all important parts of the job as well. Editing op-eds requires a broad intellectual curiosity. Our Op-Ed team is also making a push to publish more California perspectives, including viewpoints from emerging writers and diverse thought leaders.
