The Los Angeles Times is seeking an ambitious and experienced West Coast experiences editor for its Features team. The deputy editor will work closely with the creative director and the Features editor to help expand our coverage of the best experiences L.A. and the West have to offer and reimagine the future of travel coverage in a way that captivates, stimulates and engages readers hoping to understand and encounter the authentic beauty of the West Coast. This is a management position. The editor will manage staff and freelancers, edit, collaborate with teams across the newsroom and play a key role in the strategic direction of our features coverage. Specifically, the editor will build on the success of high-impact tentpoles, like the 2021 Guide to Hiking in L.A. and The Outdoor California List, and collaborate with Features staff to create other guides – on L.A. Times and on other platforms – that can serve curious readers with diverse interests and tastes. The editor should be familiar with the key brands and voices of the L.A. Times and Features and bring ideas for building on franchises such as The Wild, Escapes and Image.
