General Assignment Reporter

Modern Healthcare, the pre-eminent and trusted news organization for the nation’s healthcare industry and its leaders, seeks a full-time general assignment reporter to join our newsroom.

In this role, you will report and write breaking news stories on numerous healthcare topics, often on tight deadlines, filing copy that is clean and accurate and can be published online quickly with minimal editing. Opportunities also exist for enterprise reporting and collaborating on stories with colleagues.

Responsibilities:

Writing stories of four to 10 paragraphs quickly on a variety of healthcare topics.
Demonstrating a willingness to jump in where needed on a daily basis. One day you might be helping chase down information for a graphic, another day you might be writing a breaking news story for the website or working on a longer enterprise piece.
Developing knowledge healthcare business topics and an eagerness to learn more.
Finding a niche in our coverage that we haven’t spotted and make it your own.

Basic Requirements:

A minimum of two years reporting experience required.
B.A. in journalism or related field required,
Experience in a newsroom, ideally in a professional environment.
Evidence of strong reporting, interviewing and writing skills.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Strong organizational skills and an ability to juggle several stories at once.
An innate curiosity and desire to learn by doing.

Preferences:

Web publishing, multimedia and social media experience preferred.
Interest and skills in database journalism.
Knowledge of healthcare news and data a plus.
Audio and video reporting and photography experience a plus.

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:

The estimated salary range for this position is $45,000 to $65,000.
