Managing Editor

The Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post is the largest non-metro weekly newspaper in Texas and is consistently among the top publications in regional and state contests. Fredericksburg is a dynamic and growing community that thrives on tourism, its wine industry and festivals. We are looking a full-time managing editor to organize and contribute to coverage of general assignments, government, business, editorials and features, including planning, assigning and editing content, overseeing production schedules and supervising editorial staff. The position also will include some photography and website work and the ideal candidate will be comfortable with video and podcasting projects. The position is part of six-person news team that produces the newspaper and monthly niche magazines including the GoFredericksburg Visitors Guide and our quarterly Rock & Vine lifestyle magazine. We are looking for a positive, organized self-starter with a passion for community journalism, a desire to be involved, and an eye toward the future of our industry. Must have strong writing and communication skills, and a nose for feature and business stories. New digital media, email, and social media skills are needed, and the applicant will be expected to assist with layout and online design. As this an active market, there occasional weekend and evening coverage.
