The River City Foundation (RCF) is a private operating foundation, established in 2019. We are dedicated to expanding outdoor recreation opportunities in St. Louis and the Great Middle West. Terrain Media – www.terrain-mag.com delivers entertaining, educational, and informative content focused on active outdoor living through its free print publication, online content, and community events.

POSITION SUMMARY

Terrain Media is looking for a detail-oriented individual to join its team as the managing editor. The responsibilities of the managing editor include working closely with the publisher, planning new stories and projects, liaising with team members to meet deadlines, and ensuring manuscripts and artwork are accurate and original.

To be successful as the managing editor, you should be able to handle all stages of the editorial production process to deliver unique, informative content. Ultimately, a top-notch managing editor should be organized, well-written, motivated, and a creative thinker.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborating with the publisher to come up with new and original content on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
Working with the publisher to establish and enforce deadlines
Supervising contributors and assigning articles and projects
Reviewing written work for accuracy, sense, content, and readability and making suggestions for improvements
Engaging with designers and photographers on support material, including images, graphics, maps, and charts, to complement the written piece
Performing research, conducting interviews, and compiling information to write compelling, informative, and engaging articles
Coordinating the use of digital assets and social media to support written articles
Following outdoor recreation industry news, events, and trends to suggest new content
Working with Terrain and RCF on the development and management of relevant events
Assisting in additional marketing/communications projects as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE)

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field
Experience in editing and publishing
Excellent writing and proofreading skills
Strong working knowledge of MS Office software
Experience with social media platforms and practices
Good attention to detail, communication, and English language skills
Great critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills
A desire to learn about the publishing industry
