Mashable is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced editor to help lead our enterprise and service journalism.
Job Summary:
The Enterprise Editor will help lead coverage of a range of topics across Mashable verticals, including our content revolving around social impact, activism, identities, sustainability, and innovative efforts to address the world's most pressing problems, especially as they intersect with technology.
Importantly, the ideal candidate should also have a passion for service journalism and be able to help guide audiences to shopping decisions that support environmental stewardship; that amplify, center and empower marginalized communities; or that otherwise drive positive social impact.
This editor will have the opportunity to shape the direction of Mashable’s enterprise journalism, and will be encouraged to experiment with storytelling styles and formats, from virtual reality experiences and audio to live and virtual events.
The ideal candidate is eager to work with a small but dedicated team taking inquisitive, nuanced, and intersectional approaches to important topics, from LGBTQ issues and accessibility to feminism and diversity challenges in tech and digital spaces. This candidate should have an interest in writing about racial justice and equity and should have a love of technology, innovation, and web culture. The ideal candidate will have proven reporting and editing experience and should be comfortable coaching writers through original reporting, research, and storytelling in a tone that is conversational and engaging.
The ideal candidate should also be comfortable gauging audience interest to help guide coverage and should be able to help grow a loyal and engaged following for the Mashable brand.
This editor will work in a fast-paced environment, and should have a strategic, critical eye — all while balancing diversity, sensitivity, and inclusivity in everything they cover.
Job Duties:
Assign, edit, and/or write 2-3 unique or trending stories per day
Oversee a team of writers and the daily workflow of Mashable’s Social Good coverage
Support the Mashable team’s overarching enterprise and service journalism with coaching for reporters and sensitivity reads for content across verticals
Coaching, managing, and editing both Mashable staff writers and freelancers
Maintaining an enterprise editorial calendar
Working across the Mashable newsroom to ensure inclusive coverage in all sections
Driving photo stories, videos, and other long-term projects and alternative storytelling formats
Driving audience and click-through on our shoppable service journalism
Job Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years writing experience, a body of work that should include coverage of social justice, intersectionality, accessibility, and DEI issues
Service journalism and ecommerce experience
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills
Solid news writing skills and a critical eye
Thorough, organized, and comfortable managing sensitive topic areas
A self-starter as well as a great teammate
Knowledge of digital, social, and tech spaces and industry
Understands audience listening, including using trending and historical audience data to drive successful content plans
