We're looking for stories about skiing in Europe
If you have a great story idea on the topic of skiing in Europe, we want to hear it. We're open to various formats and concepts, with a few notable exceptions. We're not looking for family ski stories, personal narratives (unless they tie into a broader topic, like this piece), ski hotel/lodge reviews, photo essays, or profiles of people/events.
We're especially interested in:
Hard-partying European ski resorts: which are the best? How do you plan a trip?
Ski trips that work well for mixed groups (experts/beginners, skiers/non-skiers)
Trip planning/budgeting/guides
Ideas based on the concept of skiing in the US vs skiing in Europe
Unexpected/quirky/unique offerings at resorts
Before pitching, please take a look at Matador's Style Guide. When pitching, remember that our audience is primarily US-based, so we're most interested in ski resorts/regions that are relatively accessible from the US (ex: Zurich, Switzerland is easier to reach than, say, a small town in Moldova).
NOTE: Please search MatadorNetwork.com in advance to make sure we haven't covered the topic you're proposing. On average, at least half of the pitches we receive are topics we've already covered. If you're proposing to replace a current article, please specifically mention that in your pitch (and be sure to justify why you could do it better).
To apply:
Please share examples of relevant past published work (3 - 4 URLs and/or a portfolio link)
Please let us know why you're qualified to write on this topic
Please include a few sentences describing your idea for the story. What is the angle/hook? Why will readers care?
Please include your email address in the pitch
You do not need to include:
Proposed word counts or deadlines
Your phone number
Links to photos
Note that writers may only send ONE pitch per prompt. If you’re sending multiple pitches, please clearly separate the ideas within the text box below. Please do not email editors to follow up on pitches -- we really appreciate this! Like most people, our inboxes are swamped.
Pays $150-200 USD
