As the media manager for West & Central Africa you will lead, facilitate and support Amnesty International's media work in West & Central Africa. You will work with regional and international media in order to advance the human rights agenda and raise awareness of Amnesty International's work to promote and protect human rights and to support Amnesty International's global campaigns and to attract a growing number of supporters to the movement.
LOCATION
The preferred location for this role is Dakar, however other locations will be considered where there is an Amnesty International Secretariat office, however this will be dependent on several factors.
The salary on offer will be dependent on the location.
ABOUT YOU
You will have substantial and relevant experience as media manager or in journalism or public relations, in an international environment and so, have a good understanding of international political and human rights issues and specifically how these issues apply in West and Central Africa. You will have extensive experience in producing a wide range of quality materials for print and/or broadcast media, as well as for social media platforms. You will also be fluent speaking in French and English.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with national, sub-regional and international media based in the region to generate coverage about Amnesty International's human rights concerns in West & Central Africa
Implement a regional media relation programme
Draft (in French and English) short press releases or quotes based on input from country experts.
Identify opportunities for media work and provide advice on what products or activities would work best to meet media objectives and achieve impact, ensuring all work is timely, with a strong news value targeted at defined audiences
Undertake crisis media work, ensuring Amnesty International responds in an effective and timely manner to key external and internal developments
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Understanding of international political and human rights issues and specifically how these issues apply in West & Central Africa
Extensive experience in producing a wide range of quality materials for print and/or broadcast media, as well as for social media platforms
Experience of developing and implementing successful media strategies and campaigns
Experience in organizing successful media events including press conferences, briefings and seminars in range of contexts
Fluency in written and spoken English and French.
