The Daily Camera and Longmont Times-Call newspapers in Boulder County, Colo., are looking for an experienced journalist to serve as a Deputy City Editor, working weeknights in our Boulder newsroom editing daily and longer-term stories for the newspapers' websites and print editions. The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with 3 to 5 years of experience as an editor, who is a skilled wordsmith and master of AP style, who has a sharp eye for detail, and who can work closely with our reporting staff to improve both their storytelling and reporting. We're looking for someone who can remain calm and collected — and make smart decisions — in high-stress, deadline situations.
What you will do:
Help coordinate our news coverage of Boulder County
Maintain and update the websites of the Camera, Times-Call and their sister newspapers
Collaborate with and coach reporting staff
Effectively utilize our web content-management systems
Other duties will be assigned as necessary
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
Must live in area or be ready and willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
What you will bring:
Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
Three to five years of experience as an editor at a daily newspaper or online news outlet
Relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
Proven ability to coach reporters through breaking news online quickly
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
An understanding of the imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
Proven production deadline performance
An attitude that contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
Ability and willingness to experiment with new digital tools and platforms

The annual salary is $55,000.
