The Times-Tribune in Scranton, Pa., seeks an Education Reporter with an enterprising approach to covering school districts in addition to writing daily and enterprise general assignment stories for a local readership.
Though most journalists currently work from home, the person hired for this
position would be expected to relocate to Scranton, PA without relocation assistance.

Create fast and accurate local content, always striving to provide readers with what we know, when we know it while being transparent about sources of information
Employ creativity every day to conceive stories, produce or secure visuals, get sources to cooperate, corroborate facts and present information to readers in the most relevant, interesting way
Be digitally focused maximizing audience engagement through our website for breaking news
Create news and features content that is strong on grammar, punctuation, clarity and accuracy
Take initiative to fact-check, run background checks and confirm information before publication
Cultivate beats, where appropriate, and sources
Engage audience through social media on multiple platforms
Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
Experiment with new digital tools and platforms
What You Will Bring
Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
3 to 5 years of experience as a higher education reporter at a daily newspaper or online news outlet preferred
Relevant experience in news reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
A unique writing voice that speaks to their audience
Works well under deadline pressure
Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
Professional-level grasp of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation
Ability to multitask and perform in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Basic knowledge of SEO best practices and ability to research SEO and appropriately populate fields and headlines
