Sports Reporter
The Reporter is looking for a full-time, creative and ambitious sports reporter to cover local sports in Montgomery County and the surrounding region in southeast Pennsylvania for our daily and weekly print and online editions.
What You Will Do
You will have strong reporting, writing, organizational and interpersonal skills, be able to take photos and work within a team
A knowledge of social media is essential
You must meet deadlines
Must be flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays
Job requires a self-starter, expected to take initiative, who will receive regular direction and advice from the supervising editor and other editors as appropriate
Experiments with new digital tools and platforms
Contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
What You Will Bring
Degree in journalism or communications is required
Excellent language skills plus understanding of news gathering and reporting in the digital age
Requires strong knowledge of the use of grammar, spelling, headlines and photographs, along with understanding of AP and local style, news judgment and awareness of the community
Extensive computer knowledge, rapid and accurate typing ability
Expertise with social media and digital journalism
Relevant experience includes news reporting and writing, shooting photos and video, using social media, in-game stat keeping, creating enterprising content
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
Strong reporting, writing, organizational and story structure skills
Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
Travel
Moves easily among assignments. Able to cover events and related assignments in the field, providing own means of transportation
Must live in area/county or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
