The Newscaster will be responsible for delivering news, traffic, weather, and promotional announcements, program continuity, and transitions between local and network coverage. They will run a broadcast board and be the “voice of MPR News.” This position works cooperatively and effectively with broadcast operations staff, producers, editors, and other newsroom staff.
This job is on-call and hours are not guaranteed.
Expected Compensation Range: $29.64 - $35.57/hour. Exact hourly rate determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Position Responsibility:
Air programs and operate broadcast equipment.
Write, edit copy, edit audio and deliver newscasts.
Prepare news content for use throughout the schedule.
Prepare and deliver traffic reports, weather and other continuity.
Handle breaking news and program changes as required.
May work a variety of dayparts and days, including holidays.
May record promos.
Conduct two-ways and interviews.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
Minimum of two years' experience in radio news announcing, anchoring and/or reporting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Natural, friendly, conversational on-air style.
Ability to operate mixing consoles and other broadcast equipment.
Ability to comfortably deal with a wide range of content.
Good news judgment and a keen knowledge of current events, along with the ability to relate those events to the audience.
Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise and conversational news copy.
Knowledge of digital editing and production.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Major market on-air radio experience in a news setting is preferred.
A familiarity with public radio programs and the NPR audience preferred.
