Political Reporter

NBC Connecticut, located in West Hartford, CT, has an immediate opening for a political reporter. The ideal candidate will bring prior experience covering politics and a track record of both fast and unique, thought-provoking enterprise journalism. Candidates should have good instincts for understanding what angles make for a strong story.

Here You Can

Show your knowledge and understanding of political issues in the state of Connecticut
Actively monitor sources for political breaking news
Breakdown legislation and effectively communicate it to the proper audiences
Develop sources for the purpose of developing connections into story leads
Pitch, gather, report, and write news stories
Write clean, fast, and accurate copy
Enterprise ways to take the debate outside of the CT statehouse to explain how it impacts resident’s everyday lives
Creating a political calendar and long-range plan, working in tandem with managers
Aggressively follow up and pursue additional angles to the political news of the day, including chasing down exclusive information
Contribute to all platforms, including linear, on-air, and streaming platforms under tight daily deadlines
Participate in station-sponsored events and all assigned special projects
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
Two years’ experience as a television reporter

Eligibility Requirements

Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and overnights.
Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift
Must be willing to work at the station in West Hartford, CT
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
Must be 18 years or older.
This position is an AFTRA Represented job. Successful candidate will be required to join the AFTRA Union upon employment if not already a member.
