WHAT YOU’LL DO

Work with the Executive Producer and host to plan and produce episodes, from booking guests to scripting preps, shaping tight edits and closing one episode a week for a twice-weekly podcast
Work on all aspects of audio production, including prepping, recording and assembling cuts for at least one episode per week
Track major tech, business, and political stories and help shape editorial coverage, develop and deliver editorial series and create new content segments
Develop pitches, expand guest networks and chase big bookings
Deliver hard-hitting, well-shaped and sharp question prep for the host’s interviews with leaders in business, government and culture. Work closely with the Executive Producer to
Sharpen and integrate notes in these preps and to shape the overall episodes.
Support the Executive Producer in directing the host during live interviews, be nimble in following the conversation, anticipating twists and highlighting what needs live fact-checking
Shape each episode in tape, and integrate notes from the director or from other editorial ears, including fresh ears listens from senior producer peers or from junior producers
Manage and maintain the production timeline for each episode, working with guests and host to schedule tapings and perform tech checks and engineering taping as needed
Help coordinate moving parts of an episode, working closely with a network of freelance fact-checkers and engineers in the delivery of each episode to make collaboration as seamless as possible and ensure deadlines are met
Be responsible for your episodes through QC and oversee the publication process to ensure no detail is missed
Mentor junior producers as needed
Collaborate with the host, director and team to brainstorm new ideas for coverage, segments and initiatives to grow the show

WHO YOU ARE

6-9 years prepping, producing and editing podcasts, or similar experience in audio or videojournalism
Newsroom experience shaping stories as a reporter or editor in a fast-paced news environment
Experience working with talent, and ideally in prepping and directing hosted interviews
Experience fact-checking and making editorial calls on fact-checks, including in live publish environments
Expertise in ProTools or other DAWs and a desire to grow production skills
Comfort with working in a website CMS, AirTable, GoogleDocs Suite
An extroversion that lends itself to booking high-profile guests and chasing big gets
A strong interest in our key areas of coverage: news, politics, culture, and a nimbleness between subjects
Ability to retrofit work to moving deadlines – in some cases we have days to prep an interview, in other cases, we’ve prepped within an hour for moving, day 1 news stories. You should be excited about both.
An obsession with tech and culture news and a strong sense of stories and characters that will shape Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Washington DC and other centers of power
A team-player mentality and a desire to be a part of a tight-knit, ambitious team of audio-journalists
