Senior Reporter
The Daily Mercury is seeking a Senior Reporter who has strong local news knowledge and the ability to lead an award-winning news website and weekly print edition. You will be a self-starter, a good mentor and newsroom leader with a natural knack for recognising engaging and snappy copy.
What’s the role?
Sourcing and creating compelling content that is consumer relevant across print and digital platforms
Connect with existing and new readers across multiple platforms
Work under deadline pressure in a fast-paced newsroom environment
Mentor developing journalists to deliver unique content that drives conversation and reader engagement
Drive subscription growth and monitor click through rates
Generate cracking content and search for stories that are not already breaking
Who are you?
Strong reporter with exceptional news judgement
Extensive previous reporting and newsroom experience. An acute knowledge of North Queensland politics is preferred but not essential.
Experience overseeing the writing of quality content to tight deadlines
Able to recognise engaging and snappy copy
Solid print and digital experience and ability to grow subscription numbers
You are a team player with excellent communication skills and knowledge of an extensive range of topics
