The Santa Maria Times is looking for a news editor with a commitment to local news and growing audience engagement on both print and digital platforms. The right candidate would be passionate about directing our newsroom in accurate, comprehensive breaking news coverage, daily general assignment and government reporting, as well as deeper project and enterprise reporting, and would work with our regional digital producer on video, audio, social media and audience development. The news editor would also work with the managing editor on newsroom coaching and growth opportunities, prioritizing coverage, and planning community engagement events such as focus groups and forums. The successful candidate will be skilled in editing and coaching reporters, have strong news judgement, have a background in achieving audience growth through digital and print innovation, and a dedication to building and sustaining a dynamic newsroom environment. Additionally, if you have the ability to handle multiple ongoing tasks and rapidly changing priorities, and are self-motivated, community oriented and highly organized, this may be the job for you!
