The Courier Eco Latino is looking for an enterprising and ambitious Reporter to join our small, nimble team to serve Black and Hispanic communities in Columbus, Georgia and its surrounding counties. We’re looking for a journalist with keen news judgment, who wants to deeply embed in the community. This position could be ideal for a young journalist and offers a lot of opportunity for growth.
For more than 18 years, The Courier Eco Latino has amplified the voices of Black and Brown communities in the region - it is the only newspaper serving these communities, with robust digital distribution on their website and across a variety of social media platforms. The paper reaches over 70,000 readers.
Duties and responsibilities will include::
• Report and write multiple stories weekly, including breaking news, profiles, community coverage and enterprise stories
• Working collaboratively with editors, other reporters, photographers and the audience to tell impactful stories across platforms that engage, retain, and grow readers, viewers, and listeners.
• Take photos (and occasionally videos) to help illustrate your stories
• Report in-depth enterprise pieces that speak to community concerns that aren’t covered by other local news outlets
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience producing high-quality breaking news journalism across digital platforms
• Commitment to ethical, accurate and inclusive coverage
• A self-starter who is excited to be part of and cover the Columbus Black and Hispanic communities
• A collaborative spirit working with staffers across the organization and partners
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications, or related field preferred
• Demonstrated success working in a deadline-driven environment
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple stories as needed.
This full-time role offers a $35,000-$40,000 salary with generous benefits and is based in Columbus, Georgia and is not eligible for remote candidates. The Reporter will report to the President and Publisher.
