A rare opportunity has arisen at the Lancashire Telegraph for a top-class digital reporter to join the team to lead the coverage of Blackburn Rovers FC. This role presents an exciting move for a digitally savvy sports journalist to cover every inch of the club, unearthing the best breaking news, exclusive features, reaction and fan-centred stories from across the patch.
You will be delivering the sort of fast, agile and dynamic coverage that our readers expect and deserve in 2023. As well as being at the heart of live coverage, you will be passionate about digital storytelling, with a desire to develop new and innovative ways of keeping fans and neutrals alike up-to-date and entertained using a vast array of different skills, tools and platforms.
Driving digital subscriptions and writing exclusive content for loyal readers will also be a major part of the role. Immersing yourself in social media will be essential to help you tell stories, develop relationships in your area and discover what it is that gets the community around Rovers talking.
Audience analytics will be a major part of the role, and you will be comfortable with using data to spot what to write next and how to maximise the potential audience for your stories, as well as identifying trends.
You will not be stuck at home and will be encouraged to get out on patch to tell the stories fans want – be that reaction, transfer gossip, stats-based features, happenings around the club or interviews with players and staff.
This is your chance to create a new content approach for Rovers coverage – fast-paced, entertaining stories using video, audio, charts and graphics as well as good old-fashioned reporting. There is also a massive opportunity to find new audiences through Google and search.
